Siempre que se habla de VoIP aparece el conocido Skype pero desde mi punto de vista es que existen una infinidad de clientes multiplataforma, de código libre, con protocolos estándar y abiertos, limpios de spyware/adware así como otros bloques de código «oculto» (incluidos en la mayoría de software propietario y cerrado), sin clausulas abusivas ni licencias extrañas o EULAS… simplemente libres (GPL/LGPL, BSD, etc.).
A continuación dejo una pequeña «comparativa» de diversos clientes voip o softphone cuya licencia es considerada libre, la cual he extraído de la tabla contenida en el apartado General softphone clients de la página Comparison of VoIP software de la Wikipedia Inglesa
